Laser Barcode Readers Pictures

Keeping track on inventory in past has always been time-consuming, inaccurate, and expensive, and only the rapid development in the various technological fields, has made the process streamlined and far easier. The main single device that is used today, together with the complex computer systems, is the barcode scanner. It comes in many shapes and forms and various types, according to the technology that utilizes to read the bar code labels. One of the most popular barcode readers are the laser-based ones and although their popularity has been surpassed by the CCD scanners, they are still amongst the most widely used.

What are the advantages of the laser barcode scanners?

In order to understand their qualities, let us start with their disadvantages – the laser scanners have movable parts, which makes them less durable, and are also more expensive than the CCD scanners. However, they are capable of reading labels accurately, from larger distance, and could read wider labels as well. The CCD scanner works on a different principle and instead of using lasers, use numerous tiny light sources, which requires the reader to be quite close to the bar code. The top laser-based readers, on the other hand, are capable of reading from a few feet distance, and the wireless Bluetooth models can transmit the data to even a few hundred feet. This allows them to be used in large supermarkets, plants, airports, and warehouses.

They are also often easier to use, have the capability to read up to 500 labels per second, and have another great feature, called motion tolerance. This allows the operator to “sweep” a few labels, without having to press and release the trigger for every label. Certain models could read not only wrinkled, but also broken barcodes as well – they read up to the point, where the label is torn, and resume reading from the next readable bar.

When purchasing a scanner carefully weigh the pros and cons of each type, choose a make that suits your needs, and take other factors such as brand, warranty, and durability into account as well.
