Pos Scanning Pictures
As a retailer, one of the biggest benefits to implementing a barcoding system into your retail operation is that you’ll be able to more easily and accurately manage your inventory. However, inventory management improvements are not the only benefit of using a barcoding system.
Another way to use barcodes in your retail business is to track your invoices and purchase orders. Some top quality Point of Sale software platforms now print barcodes directly on invoices and purchase orders which makes it much easier and quicker for clerks to be able to pull up an invoice after a sale.
By making it easier to quickly scan an invoice and pull it up in the POS software, you will be able to process any customer returns or complete layaway transactions more quickly. It may not seem like a huge difference between typing in an invoice number, versus scanning it on a barcode, but the benefits go beyond just speed. By scanning a barcode, it virtually ensures 100% accuracy in terms of pulling up the right invoice.
Identifying an invoice, or even a purchase order with 100% accuracy will result in huge time and potential money savings due to erroneous transaction refunds or credits, payments, refunds being applied to the wrong invoice etc.
Sometimes due to smudging or wear and tear it is also difficult to identify an invoice number, but a barcode may be easier to scan even if the invoice number is not legible.
One other way in which barcodes can be used in your business is for customer identification cards and/or gift cards. By giving clients a plastic card such as the ones you see in most grocery stores, and at some retailers, you can use a barcode scanner to scan the back of the card and identify the customer in your system. This allows you to easily track customer data and sales and print more accurate reports later on.
A lot of customers may not like having to give you their phone number every time they process a transaction, for example, but they’ll gladly hand over their customer card which you scan and get the same information which was already collected from them once when they signed up for the card.
In this way you can track customer loyalty, buying trends and sales statistics on each client with a lot of accuracy. Imagine being able to print out a report of your top 100 customers at the end of the year and mailing them a VIP invitation to a special sale you’re having for your top 100 customers.
By using a customer card with a barcode on the back, you can track such data quickly, easily and accurately without having to have the client tell your clerks their names or phone numbers in order to track them.
In order to utilize a barcoding system in your business all you need is a POS software platform that supports printing barcodes as well as a barcode scanner.
