Qr Barcode Scanner
It’s fascinating what is going on with QR codes and how they offer the ability to link the offline world with the online world. A QR code is basically a variation of a typical bar code that you see everywhere on just about anything you buy. What this allows you to do is, basically, create an image in the real world that acts like a website link for smart phone users.
The best way to figure the whole thing out is to grab a Droid Bar code Scanner app (or whatever smart phone you use) and start playing around. Search the Droid Market for “bar code scanner” or “qr code” and try a few of them out. Once you get the app you’ll start to become aware of how handy this whole thing is. The possibilities are staggering for what can be done and for what you can gain by using these things.
First off most of the bar code scanners out there can be used on normal bar codes. For example, go into a Walmart or any store and find an item, any item, with a bar code. Let’s say you’re shopping for a second monitor. Open the app and scan the bar code on the monitor tag and something very cool happens.
What this does it goes out online and starts giving you information about that specific item. You can get specifications and reviews from other people who have purchased that exact monitor. Other nearby competing stores will popup showing you the price comparisons and directions to that store. Online retailers will popup showing you what you could buy that exact item for online. It’s like one massive comparison shopping engine that not only saves you time but can also save you some serious coin.
With QR codes it’s just as interesting. While the typical bar code is rectangular in shape and consists of many vertical lines of different thickness a QR code will be square in shape and have dots and squares in the design rather than the lines. When you scan a QR code from a magazine, newspaper, billboard or wherever with your Droid you’ll be taken to a website. Very often this can lead to specific coupons, special deals, interesting information, maps and more. These codes are popping up on websites as well. Find a cool site that offers something, scan the QR code and take that information with you in seconds.
Where before you had to type in a website address, or try to remember a URL, now it’s as simple as opening up an app and scanning a code. Once you start paying attention to this feature you’ll start to notice these codes are everywhere!
